BMW Championship: Keegan Bradley birdies 18th round, takes lead over Adam Scott | Golf News

American Keegan Bradley birdied the 18th hole to take a one-shot lead over Adam Scott in the third round of the BMW Championship.

Bradley made the most of a roller coaster day, shooting a two-under 70 with eight birdies and six bogeys to finish at 12-under at Castle Pines Golf Club.

He overtook Scott on the final hole to take the lead, and although the Australian struggled with a third-round 74, he kept in touch with Bradley with two birdies at the end.

“I felt like I had eaten my fill of it and didn't feel like I did too much wrong, but I had a couple of drives that weren't quite right, and I three-putted once and then all of a sudden I started to chase,” Scott said after the round.

“I'm in a good position to take a step back at the end.”

Clubhouse leader Bradley believed his fighting spirit triumphed over difficult circumstances.

“It was tough today,” admitted the Team USA Ryder Cup captain. “It was really windy, and there were a lot of high tees that cut into the wind, so it was really tough.

“I'm proud of the way I fought today. I played great golf, but I also hit terrible shots. That's the way things are. But in the end, I'm proud of the way I fought.

“I told myself after those three bogeys in a row I was either going to be tied for the lead or one spot behind… After that I hit some really good shots.”

Sweden's Ludvig Overi and Alex Noren tied for third place with rounds of 71 and 70 respectively, both at 10-under par.

American Xander Schauffele is three strokes behind at seven under.
