Boeing's Starliner spacecraft returns empty

Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams are stuck on the International Space Station (ISS) after a failed test flight on Boeing’s Starliner. This weekend, NASA announced that the astronauts will remain on the ISS until February, when they will be retrieved by SpaceX’s Dragon as part of the Crew-9 mission.

Eight months is a long time to be in space, especially since the astronauts were only supposed to be on the ISS for eight days. But being away from our home planet for such long periods of time is not unheard of. Some astronauts have stayed on the ISS for a year. So until February, eight months after their initial test flight, Whitmore and Williams will be on the ISS doing research, helping maintain the station, and possibly even doing a few spacewalks.

What went wrong with Starliner? And how did NASA respond to the Boeing incident? Watch today's TechCrunch Minute to find out.
