For Tampa International Airport, the Costa Rica route is particularly important.
Airport officials said the San Jose service is the first nonstop route between Tampa and Costa Rica in 25 years.
Breeze continues to expand in the Caribbean.
This announcement continues Breeze Airways’ aggressive expansion into the Caribbean and near-Caribbean markets.
The airline is increasingly targeting underserved international routes from America’s second-largest cities by using its Airbus A220-300 aircraft to establish nonstop service that is often overlooked by larger carriers.
With the new additions, Breeze now offers more than 300 nonstop routes across 87 cities in the United States, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
“This announcement doubles the number of international destinations Breeze serves from Tampa,” said Breeze Founder and CEO. David Neelman.
The airline has carved out a niche between ultra-low-cost carriers and established carriers over the past few years, emphasizing nonstop flights, smaller airports and upgraded in-flight amenities.
This includes free family seating, in-flight Wi-Fi, preferred seating options, and no change or cancellation fees.
Punta Cana’s flight boom continues
The Punta Cana route adds to what is already one of the fastest-growing air transport markets in the Caribbean.
The Dominican Republic destination continues to attract new routes from across the U.S. as hotel growth accelerates along the U.S. East Coast.
Punta Cana remains the leading all-inclusive market in the Caribbean, with major brands continuing to add new resorts and adults-only concepts across the areas around Bavaro Beach, Cap Cana and Uvero Alto.
For Florida travelers, this route also offers a relatively short, nonstop option for a long weekend trip to the Caribbean.
Costa Rica demand continues to grow
The addition of Costa Rica reflects another broader regional trend: the continued growth in demand for leisure travel to Central America.
San Jose serves as a gateway for travelers to destinations throughout Costa Rica, including Pacific Coast beach towns, rainforest resorts, and eco-lodges.
This route also gives Tampa-area travelers a direct option to destinations that are rapidly growing in popularity among travelers seeking nature-focused vacations and adventure travel.
Tampa International Airport CEO michael stevens Both routes were called important additions to the airport’s international network.
“We are improving access to two of Tampa Bay’s popular destinations with new service to San Jose, Costa Rica and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, making these destinations available from TPA for the first time in 25 years,” said Stephens.
Breeze is betting on an underserved market.
Breeze’s broader strategy continues to focus on nonstop service between markets that have traditionally required connectivity from large airlines.
This approach has helped the airline expand rapidly in leisure destinations, particularly in the Caribbean and Latin America.
