Brian Williams may host Amazon’s live election night special.

Amazon Prime Video could get into the live news business, if only for one night.

Variety says the company is in talks to host a live Election Night special with longtime NBC and MSNBC news anchor Brian Williams, providing nonpartisan coverage of the U.S. presidential election as results emerge. Reportedly, it is competing with more traditional TV news broadcasts.

Amazon has built its streaming business around on-demand shows and movies, like other services, but it is also shifting to live programming, especially with its Thursday night NFL broadcasts. (Even Netflix, whose executives have consistently said they are interested in bidding for live sports rights, announced a deal with WWE in January.)

Amazon did not immediately respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment. Variety said the company has no plans to create a regular news program and is instead treating it as a one-off program.
