
Aston Villa went from two goals down at Brighton to a chaotic seven-goal thriller to win 4-3 and move into third place in the Premier League.
Villa suffered a nightmare start on the south coast after a mistake by goalkeeper Marco Vizo, who replaced Emiliano Martinez late, before a Pau Torres own goal put Brighton ahead 2-0 after 29 minutes.
But Ollie Watkins’ double, who ended an 11-game goal drought, surprisingly brought Villa level before half-time.
Villa completed the comeback with Amadou Onana’s header in the 60th minute of the first half, and in the 78th minute of the second half, substitute Donell Mallen scored with his first touch, giving Villa a two-goal lead.
But Brighton threatened to make a comeback when Jan Paul van Heke scored a second goal five minutes from time.
Bizot then atoned for his mistake with a superb stoppage-time save to deny Brighton substitute Danny Welbeck in Van Hecke’s opener and give Villa a sixth successive win in all competitions.
The dramatic win took Unai Emery’s side six points ahead of leaders Arsenal when they face them at Villa Park on Saturday.
