Christian Romero’s 90th-minute equalizer saved pressured Tottenham boss Thomas Frank from an embarrassing defeat at second-place Burnley when a defender’s header earned them a 2-2 draw.
But the full-time whistle at Turf Moor was met with boos from the visitors as the pressure continued to mount on Frank, with Tottenham having won just two of their last 14 league games.
Frank’s side failed to go winless in the Premier League in 2026 with a Champions League win at home to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
Tottenham, in 13th place, are currently eight points above the drop zone and face a difficult February in the Premier League where they face Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle and Arsenal.
Substitute Lyle Foster’s 74th-minute goal looked set to complete Burnley’s comeback after Axel Tuanzebe canceled out Micky van de Ven’s 38th-minute opener just before half-time.
But Romero’s last-gasp goal – his third in as many games – extended Burnley’s winless league run to 14 games and moved Scott Parker’s side seven points clear of safety.
Spurs fans chanted ‘We want Frank out’.
Sky Sports News’ Peter Stevenson at Turf Moor:
“The away fans booed at the final whistle after Tottenham saved a late goal. They started the game brightly but struggled to match Burnley’s intensity in the second half. They faced another defeat until Romero’s dramatic late equalizer.
“Frank walked up to the chants of fans from both sides as Spurs supporters chanted ‘We want Frank out’ and then approached the taunting home fans who said ‘You’ll be sacked in the morning’.
“It was a huge disappointment for Burnley who were looking for their first win since October.
“They are now in danger of being isolated at the bottom of the table with Wolves.”
Frank: We should have won
tottenham head coach thomas frank speaking sky sports:
“We had a good first half, we were 1-0 up and could have easily scored a second goal, and then just before half-time we conceded a goal we couldn’t concede.
“Then we went into halftime feeling a little sad. The second half was a bit back and forth. We didn’t create that much, but we gave up another goal that we couldn’t concede.”
“But the players showed great character to keep going and fighting. We had four big chances and scored from one of them.”
“But we should have won the game for what we made.”
About the defender’s goal: “Huge kudos to Micky and Cuti. It also highlights a bit that we need to score goals from different angles.”
