Callum Simpson and Caroline Dubois are set to defend their titles in a thrilling start to next year’s boxing calendar live from Sheffield on January 11. sky sports.
Simpson will defend his British and Commonwealth super middleweight titles against Steed Woodall, while Dubois will face Jessica Camara for the WBC interim lightweight belt.
Undefeated Simpson will look to build on his legacy at the Cannon Medical Arena by putting his hometown Barnsley on the boxing map with a dominant display to claim the title in August.
Simpson demonstrated his pulling power and boxing prowess by knocking out reigning champion Zak Chelli via unanimous points decision in front of a sell-out crowd at Oakwell Stadium and will now defend his belt for the first time against Birmingham’s Woodall.
“Winning the belt at Barnsley is a dream come true,” Simpson said. “It was an unforgettable moment. It was even more special to hear the crowd roar and see so many familiar faces.
“Defending my title in Sheffield is a great opportunity to bring in more people and show what I’m made of. Yorkshire has a proud boxing history and I want to make the county proud and add to that legacy.”
Woodall, 30, known as ‘The Stallion’, will be brimming with confidence after scoring a career-best performance against previously undefeated Lerrone Richards last June.
““Callum is young and keen to make a good impression,” Woodall said. “I will use this to my advantage. He’s ticked all the boxes so far, but his jaw and resilience haven’t been tested. I expect fireworks from this fight!
“This type of fight has been a long time coming for me and I would love it. This win means everything to me and means providing a better life for my daughter. Styles create fights and I don’t have to go looking for Callum because Callum meets me in the middle. This is the type of fighting I excel at.
Dubois is ahead of the Camara test in Sheffield.
Dubois will face former world title challenger Camara of Canada. This is her first fight since defeating Maira Moneo to win the WBC interim lightweight title in August.
The 23-year-old, considered by many to be women’s boxing’s best prospect to challenge Katie Taylor’s crown, has her sights set on a British unification showdown with current WBO lightweight champion Terry Harper.
Dubois must first get past the highly ranked Canadian, former super lightweight world title challenger Camara, who is looking to derail the young Londoner’s promising career.
“Caroline has a great future ahead of her,” said Ben Shalom, BOXXER Founder and CEO. “She has her sights set on a world title and unification, but will need to be at her best to overcome an experienced world-class operator like Camara.
“What a great start to the year. Two of the country’s brightest stars are back in action for an unmissable night of boxing in Sheffield. Yorkshire has always been a hotbed of boxing talent.”
