Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Friday that his country would reduce billions of dollars in retaliation for US products, but he would impose a car, steel and aluminum.
One day after President Donald Trump’s first speech on the phone, the two countries missed their own deadline to reach the trade agreement.
Canada has been charged 25%for $ 3 billion ($ 16 billion; $ 21.7 billion) for various products, including orange juice and washing machines.
Tax hikes have been retaliated with Canada’s US tariffs, and as of August, it is worth 35%for all products that do not comply with existing free trade transactions.
Carney said Canada is now consistent with the United States by ending tariffs on products that comply with the US-Mexico-Canadian Free Trade Agreement (USMCA). He said he would re -establish free trade for the majority of the products moving between the two countries.
Carney said that this decision would take effect on September 1.
The White House welcomed Canada’s movement in a statement on the BBC’s US news partner CBS, saying, “The deadline has passed for a long time.”
Canada is one of the many countries involved by the United States as part of Trump’s global trade strategy, but it is one of the two countries who have a retaliation for US products with China.
According to polls, the majority of Canadians support the US retaliatory tariffs.
Carney, elected in the April general election, mentioned the popular ice hockey terms and campaigned an aggressive “elbow up” approach to negotiations with Trump.
Kani asked Canada whether Canada was softening the approach.
As a result, the actual tariff on Canadian products is about 5.6%, much lower than the average 16%of other countries.
“It is important to do your best to preserve this unique advantage for Canadian workers and companies when trying to solve outstanding trade issues with the United States.”
Carney said Canada’s focus will now accelerate automobiles, steel, aluminum, wood and other important sectors before the planned review of the USMCA free trade contract next year.
The United States has a 50%tariff on not only British imports, but also for all British steel and aluminum imports. In addition, 25%were imposed on aluminum imports.
Canada has a 25%tariff on US steel, aluminum and cars. Carney said it will remain as it is now.
After returning to the White House in January, Trump threatened to go higher by starting a global trade war, imposing tariffs around the world, gathering goods, and negotiating a favorable trade transaction in the United States.
