Carnival’s next cruise ship, the Legend, will have more ocean views, more glass and a new class

Workers cut the first steel. carnival fateThe latest ship in the line and the first ship in Carnival’s new Ace class was unveiled at a ceremony held at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone.

The ship is scheduled to debut in the summer of 2029, marking the beginning of the next generation of Carnival ships that will eventually include three ships.

The event officially revealed the ship’s name and also included a 3D hologram previewing what Carnival says will be a radically different kind of giant ship.

A new class of ships

Carnival Destiny will be the first Ace-class ship, with sister ships already planned for 2031 and 2033.

The project also resurrects one of the most recognizable names in the company’s history. The original Carnival Destiny debuted in 1996 as the world’s largest cruise ship and became one of the defining ships of its era.

More than 30 years later, Carnival begins its next evolution, once again taking on the name Destiny.

Designed around the sea

One of the biggest changes is the way the ship connects guests to the sea.

Carnival says Destiny will be its most outward-facing megaship with more than 4.5 acres of glass throughout the ship, including an unprecedented number of ocean-view balcony cabins, a redesigned veranda deck, and expansive multi-layered glass walls to maximize ocean views from public areas.

The goal is simple. The idea is to be able to see the sea from almost anywhere on board.

What’s new on board

Carnival also promises one of the biggest onboard overhauls in years.

More than 70% of the ship’s venues and attractions will be completely new to the cruise line, including new dining concepts, redesigned bars and lounges, fresh entertainment venues and expanded outdoor spaces. Carnival has not yet released details about these experiences and said more information will be announced later this year.

“Carnival Destiny builds on our legacy of transforming cruise travel before, reimagining what our guests can experience at sea,” Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said in a statement. “With this ship, we are again enhancing the customer experience, creating a ship that feels more spacious, while helping our guests feel more connected and ultimately have more fun.”

Future Caribbean itinerary

When Carnival Destiny enters service in summer 2029, the ship will sail to destinations within Carnival’s Paradise Collection, the company’s portfolio of exclusive destinations throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas and Mexico.

Carnival has not yet announced the ship’s specific homeport or travel itinerary.

What you need to know

The steel cutting ceremony marks the official start of construction on what will be one of Carnival’s most significant new ships in years. Beyond added capacity, Ace Class represents a new design philosophy centered around ocean views and an all-new lineup of onboard experiences.

Another major new ship is on the horizon, and is expected to spend a lot of time sailing around the region when it debuts in 2029.
