Caroline Dubois has claimed Alycia Baumgardner is “most definitely” scared of fighting her later this year.
Dubois engaged in a war of words with the American after defeating Terri Harper to unify the WBC and WBO lightweight world championships earlier this month.
Baumgardner will defend her IBF, WBO and WBA super featherweight titles against Bomi Shin in New York this weekend. sky sports From 3 a.m. Saturday.
Dubois has made it clear that she would like to meet Baumgardner in a high-profile clash, but believes her American rival will struggle against Shin.
“She’s fighting one of the opponents I’ve already beaten,” Dubois said. sky sports. “I hope she wins the fight. I think she’s famous and she does all the right things when it comes to promoting and growing. That’s why people want to fight her. I want to see her win the fight.”
However, Dubois added, “I think it’s going to be a tough fight because I know how tough Bo is. I think Bo will expose what I know and what I see. But I hope Bo can pull through and come away with better skills and win the fight.”
The Londoner is putting pressure on Baumgardner to agree to box her.
“She doesn’t want to fight,” Dubois said. “Whenever I hear Alycia Baumgardner, the name that constantly comes up in the comments is Caroline Dubois. She says she has bigger fights elsewhere, but whenever people associate Alycia, they associate her with me.
“They’re demanding Alycia vs. Caroline Dubois. I don’t see why they shouldn’t give the fans what they want. It’s a great fight. It just depends on whether MVP (their promoter) wants the fight and whether she can finally find her (courage).”
Just as he did with Harper, Dubois will unabashedly continue his verbal abuse.
“I don’t think I play the villain. I play the confident one and people seem to be triggered by that. I play the confident one. I am myself. I knew I was a better fighter than Terry Harper,” the Briton said.
“I don’t think I’m a villain. I’m just telling the truth. I’m saying how I feel and I’m not afraid to say it. A lot of people feel their way into a fight but don’t have the courage or heart to say it because if they lose, they’ll get called out.
“I just have to be me and if people want to be triggered by it, that’s up to them.”
Dubois will have other options if a fight with Baumgardner is not possible. There are other lightweight champions she could box as well. Stephanie Han and Holly Holm will fight for the WBA title on May 30, while undefeated slugger Elif Nur Turhan holds the IBF championship at 135 pounds.
Dubois wants to box Turhan next rather than wait for a Han-Holm winner.
“I don’t think she’s a good fighter, but she’s a very dangerous fighter. I don’t think it’s a hard fight, but I think it’s a dangerous fight. That’s why it’s exciting,” Dubois said.
“I want to continue my own development,” she concluded. “I want to be in the biggest fight. I definitely want to create a great legacy for myself. I’ve unified and I want to do it again.”
