Cellebrite announced on Tuesday that Serbia’s police and information unlocked the calls of journalists and activists using Cellebrite’s technology and planted a spyware.
In December 2024, Amnesty International issued a report that Serbian police hacked the cell phone of local journalists and activists using Cell Levite’s forensic tools. When the cell phone was unlocked, the Serbian authorities continued to monitor two things by installing Amnesty, an Amnesty, called Novispy.
In the statement, Cellebrite said, “In December 2024, we reviewed the charges filed by the International Amnesty Report, and took accurate measures to investigate each claim according to ethics and integrity policies. I thought it was appropriate to stop the use of the products of related customers. ”

Cellebrite’s Victor Cooper spokesman refused to mention TechCrunch when he asked if this was permanent or temporary and could be reinstated.
“It’s important to withdraw the license from customers who misuse the equipment for political reasons,” said Doncha Cear Cearbhaill. “Now the Serbian authorities should urgently carry out their thorough and fair investigations, hold people who are responsible, provide relief measures to victims, and build appropriate protection measures to prevent abuse in the future.”
