Charley Hull: With recent Women’s European Tour win, the British woman made history by moving to a career-high No. 3 in the world | golf news

Charley Hull has risen to No. 3 in the world in the latest Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. This is the highest ranking for a British female player in its 20-year history.

Hull won the Ladies European Tour’s season-opening PIF Saudi Ladies International last Saturday, shooting a final-round 65 to come within a shot of winning over Akie Iwai and Cassandra Alexander.

She won her fifth Ladies European Tour title following her victory at the LPGA Tour’s Kroger Queen City Championship last September, and her latest success saw her reach a career-high world ranking.

In the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings released on Monday, Hull moved up from fifth to third, ahead of KPMG Women’s PGA Championship winner Lee Min-ji and AIG Women’s Open champion Miyu Yamashita in the rankings.

Only Jeeno Thitikul and Nelly Korda currently have a higher world ranking than Hull, and they will have the chance to move closer to becoming Britain’s first female world number one in the coming months.

“I’ve worked really hard this offseason so it’s nice to get a result straight away and it’s one of the biggest events on the LET,” Hull said after Saturday’s win in Riyadh.

Charley Hull discusses winning the PIF Saudi Ladies International and what it means for the year ahead.

The 29-year-old is one of two British women ranked in the world’s top 10, along with Lottie Woad, who enjoyed a groundbreaking maiden season in 2025 after turning professional and is currently ranked eighth in the world.

Hull has tied for no lower than 21st since the start of June, finished runner-up at last summer’s AIG Women’s Open and has added three more top five finishes in the world for the second half of 2025.

How mashed potatoes helped Hull win against Saudi Arabia

Hull was three shots behind the 54-hole lead in Riyadh and tied for 11th, but he topped the leaderboard on the final day with an eagle, seven birdies and two bogeys in an eventful round.

A birdie-eagle-birdie on the 11th hole, followed by two more birdies in the final four holes, set a clubhouse target and earned him his second win in Riyadh, having won the 2024 Aramco Team Series event in the same city.

“After nine holes, I ran to the bathroom and ate some mashed potatoes, so I don’t know if that gave me any energy for the back nine,” Hull added.

“We needed a win as our home renovations are almost complete. We look forward to settling in and celebrating our birthday once it’s all done in a few weeks.”
