A gas explosion occurred at a coal mine in northern China on Sunday, killing at least 82 people and leaving at least two missing, officials said.
Surveillance video broadcast by state media on Monday shows the moment the explosion occurred inside Shaanxi province’s Liuxianyu coal mine.
The incident was the worst mining disaster in China since 2009, and Chinese President Xi Jinping said no effort should be spared in search and rescue operations.
The cause of the gas explosion is not yet known, but state media reported that carbon monoxide concentrations in the mine were found to ‘exceed limits’.
