  • butter
  • granulated sugar
  • egg
  • vanilla extract
  • baking powder
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • spread
These are the ingredients you need to make easy Christmas sugar cookies with sprinkles.

How to make easy Christmas sugar cookies:

  1. Beat butter and sugar. Place the softened butter and sugar in a mixer and whip until light and fluffy. It takes about 3 to 4 minutes. Don't skip this step. You will need to introduce some air into the mixture. Add eggs and vanilla and continue to beat until light in color.
  2. Combine dry ingredients. Mix dry ingredients together in a medium bowl. Add to wet ingredients and stir just until combined.
  3. Roll into a ball. Scoop the dough (about 2 tablespoons each) and shape into balls.
  4. Soak in roots. Pour the sprinkles you plan to use into a shallow bowl. Dip the top and sides of the sugar cookie dough into sprinkles and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure the sprinkles don't touch the bottom of the cookie. It may melt and burn.
  5. baking. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until top is slightly cracked. Be careful not to overbake. Otherwise, you won't end up with soft and chewy cookies. It will continue to set as it cools.

tips and suggestions

Don't overbake!

The secret to soft and chewy sugar cookies is to take them out of the oven while they are still soft! It will continue to harden as it cools, so don't leave it in the oven if it still looks a little underbaked. That's what you want.

yes! I love freezing my cooking dough. Roll the dough into balls and dip in sprinkles. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let cool until the balls are firm. Then place them in a freezer bag until ready to bake. For best results, use within 2 to 3 months. When ready to bake, place frozen dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake as directed. Add 2 minutes to baking time.

How should I store leftover sugar cookies?

Make sure cookies are completely cooled before storing. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days. It won't be as bad after that, but the texture and taste won't be as good. For longer storage, store cookies in an airtight container or zip-top bag in the freezer.

How do you stop your sugar cookies from spreading?

  • Make sure you are using parchment paper on your baking sheets. This will help the cookies maintain their shape.
  • Chilling the dough before baking also helps prevent it from spreading during baking.
  • Make sure your oven temperature is correct. Every oven bakes differently, so use an oven thermometer to determine how your oven is heating and adjust accordingly.
  • Check out the baking powder. Baking powder helps with the rise. Once opened, baking powder will remain fresh for 9 to 12 months. To test baking powder, add 1/2 teaspoon to a cup of hot water. If you feel dizzy immediately, you are free to go. If not, it's time to throw it.
  • Do not overcrowd the baking sheet. To ensure proper baking, allow at least 2 inches of space around each dough ball.

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat.

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer or in a large bowl with a hand mixer, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. This will take approximately 3-4 minutes. Don't overlook this step!

  • Add the egg and vanilla and beat again until the batter lightens in color.

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt and mix well. Add to creamed mixture and mix until combined.

  • Scoop about 2 tablespoons of batter at a time, covering the top and sides with sprinkles. Don't let too much of the sprinkles touch the bottom of the dough ball that touches the pan. This is because it may melt or burn.

  • Place dough balls 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until tops are slightly cracked. If you want soft and chewy sugar cookies, don’t bake them too long!

  • Let the cookies sit on the baking sheet for 3 to 4 minutes, then transfer to a cooking rack. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. enjoy!
