Conor Benn made it clear he wants to fight WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia next after defeating Regis Prograis on Saturday.
Ben scored a unanimous decision win over former world champion Prograis in his first match of the year at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The 29-year-old had to work hard for the win after suffering a cut to his eye from multiple clashes of heads, before quickly turning his attention to Garcia.
“Garcia, I want the belt! I want the belt. Keep your belt warm,” he said in a video posted on social media.
“September. Let’s go. Any day of the week. Twice on Sunday. 10 rounds, easy. Garcia next. Keep my belt warm.”
“I lost. Garcia vs. Ben. Let’s do it,” said Garcia, who won the WBC welterweight world title by defeating Mario Barrios in February.
Benn’s win over Prograis, which moved his fight record to 25-1, was at a catchweight 3lb above the welterweight limit of 147lb.
He has fought at welterweight for most of his career, with his only loss coming to 160-pounder Chris Eubank Jr. before winning a rematch last year.
Prograis pushed Benn hard on Saturday, but Benn’s greater speed and energy gave him a comfortable points win.
“It’s been a great fight. Tough, durable and experienced. We’ve had to weather the storm, but we’re good,” said Benn.
“I bounced back for the first time at 150 in three years and now I’m ready to go down to 147 to get Ryan Garcia.”
