
Conor Benn’s world title fight with Ryan Garcia is nearing completion, the British contender’s trainer Tony Sims has said.
Garcia announced earlier this month that he would make his first defense. September 12th WBC welterweight title fight against Ben in Las Vegas.
But Benn’s long-term cornerman Sims insists contract terms between the two players still need to be agreed.
“Negotiations for the fight are still ongoing, so there’s no date or location set yet, but I think it’s moving in that direction,” Simms said. sky sports.
“Conor’s WBC is a must so Ryan will have to defend him at some stage. It looks like the fight is on the verge of happening.”
Benn avenged the only loss on his record with a dominant points win over bitter rival Chris Eubank Jr last November.
The 29-year-old warmed up for Garcia with a wide points win over Regis Prograis in April.
“Ryan Garcia is a great fighter. He’s been with some big fighters,” Sims said.
“Obviously Conor is going to be a massive underdog in that fight, but commercially it’s a huge fight, they’re both really big names.
“Ryan from America and Conor from England – with huge names, this is a fight everyone will want to see.
“Conor needs to be trained like he was in the second Eubank fight. He needs to be trained on his tactics and if the fight happens I believe Conor will have a good chance to win the belt.”
