Dorito Casserole Ingredients
- Doritos:I used classic nacho cheese, but you can use any flavor you like! Store the chips in large pieces to prevent them from getting soggy.
- Spicy kick!Turn up the heat with spicy taco seasoning packets, chopped peppers, or bold Doritos flavors like Flamin’ Hot or Spicy Nacho.
- Protein Exchange: Ground beef works well, but you can also use ground turkey, pork, or rotisserie chicken.
- Cheese Tips: Finely chop the cheese from the block. Pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents, which can prevent it from melting smoothly.
How to Make Doritos Casserole
This Doritos casserole has multiple layers that make it as fun to assemble as it is to eat. For a full meal, serve with a simple side salad, Mexican rice, or black beans.
- Meat dishes: Place the ground beef in a large skillet and cook over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes. Cook until no pink remains, separating. Drain out the grease. Add finely chopped onion and finely chopped red pepper to the skillet and cook for another 3 minutes.
- add: Stir beef broth, diced tomatoes and peppers, taco seasoning, and sour cream into meat mixture in skillet. Boil for 2 to 3 minutes until it begins to thicken slightly.
- bit: With the bag sealed, lightly crush the Nacho Cheese Doritos. Then layer half of the chips in the prepared casserole dish. Top with half of the shredded Monterey Jack cheese.
- meat: Top the chips and cheese with the meat mixture.
- Layers and Baking: Then top with remaining chips and cheese. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake until cheese is completely melted and bubbly, 3 to 5 minutes.
- Top and Serve: For extra crunch, sprinkle freshly crushed Doritos on top and serve. Let the Doritos casserole sit for 5 minutes before serving with the taco toppings of your choice.
