Friday’s total power outage came after the Antonio Guiteras power plant in Matanzas, the island’s largest, went offline.

President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez said the situation was an “absolute priority.”

On Friday morning, officials announced that all schools and non-essential activities, including nightclubs, would remain closed until Monday.

Non-essential workers have been urged to stay at home to protect electricity supplies, and non-essential government services have been suspended.

According to local media, Cubans were also advised to turn off high-consumption appliances such as refrigerators and ovens during peak hours.
