Rangers have signed midfielder Dan Neal on a three-year deal.
The 24-year-old, who left Sunderland at the end of his contract, was in talks with Southampton and looked set to move to St Mary’s.
But Rangers have signed the former England youth international, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town.
Neil went on to make 201 senior appearances for Sunderland after graduating from the club’s academy, captaining the side through the play-offs in 2024/25 to the Premier League.
In an interview with RangersTV, Neil said: “This is a new chapter for myself and I’m really excited to have signed for Rangers. I can’t wait to see what the next few years bring.”
“I played for Sunderland for many years and the weight and expectation from the fans to win every week and the feeling it makes or breaks people’s weekends is what drives me.
“I’ve talked to a lot of people who have been here and they say it feels very similar, and as a character and person who really drives me to give 110 percent every day, I need that in my career.”
Rangers have already signed Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrory, Ben Godfrey and Ivor Pandour in this summer’s transfer window.
On signing another player, manager Derek McInnes said: “We are really excited to welcome Dan to the club, he will be a great addition to our team.
“He is a technically gifted midfielder who is good in possession, can score goals and brings great energy to the team.
“At 24, we are signing a player who is hungry and ambitious but already has significant experience and leadership qualities and will captain Sunderland to promotion to the Premier League in 2025.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Dan throughout the pre-season as we prepare for the challenges ahead.”
