Britain is scheduled to begin Davis Cup qualifying with a visit to Japan immediately after the Australian Open.
Leon Smith’s team will be seeded 11th in next year’s Davis Cup. The final will be moved from Spain to Italy in 2025, with the final eight countries competing for the title.
Britain was the 11th seed in Monday’s first-round draw, with unseeded Japan choosing to play the tie court. The match will be played over two days: January 31st and February 1st or February 1-2.
The UK will have to go through two rounds of qualifying negotiations to advance to that stage.
If Britain beats Japan, they will face either Germany, who advanced to the 2024 semifinals, or Israel in the second qualifying round.
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced that the Davis Cup finals will be held in Italy for the next three years, with the 2025 event scheduled to be held in Bologna.
The Italians are looking to defend their Davis Cup for a third successive year as the competition moves to their home city of Malaga in southern Spain.
“We are delighted to have been chosen as the host country and look forward to welcoming the world’s best teams to our country next November and over the next three years,” said Andrea Binaghi, President of the Italian Tennis Federation.
