The CDC declared an outbreak caused by multiple types of salmonella and traced it to several moringa leaf powder products, and the FDA closed its investigation.
As of July 22, 2026, a total of 131 people across 38 states have been reported to be infected with one of the outbreak strains of Salmonella. Illness began between August 22, 2025 and June 14, 2026. Of the 121 people for whom information was available, 36 were hospitalized. No deaths were reported.

Of the 84 patients interviewed during the outbreak, 74 reported eating products containing moringa leaf powder. Of those, 63 reported consuming only Live it Up Super Greens supplement powder and 5 reported consuming only Why Not Natural moringa powder capsules. One person reported consuming both Live it Up Super Greens supplement powder and Why Not Natural moringa powder capsules, and 5 people reported consuming only TNVitamins moringa powder capsules.
Products associated with the diseases associated with this outbreak have a long shelf life. The FDA is reminding consumers and retailers not to eat, sell or serve recalled products containing moringa leaf powder. Consumers must dispose of these products.
As part of the investigation, the FDA and its state partners in Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin collected samples of finished products and ingredients from the homes and businesses of sick people in the supply chain. A total of 12 samples tested positive for Salmonella, and 11 samples had one or more of the outbreak strains of Salmonella detected during whole genome sequencing.
The FDA has stepped up testing for salmonella on moringa powder imported from India.
