Postnord, Denmark’s state -owned post office service, ended all letter delivery at the end of 2025 and cited a 90%reduction in convenience after the century.
This decision ends 400 years of the company’s letter service. Denmark’s 1,500 mailboxes begin to disappear from early June.
Thomas Danielsen, Minister of Transportation, tried to reassure the Danish. One company said it is ready to acquire delivery.
Postal service across Europe is having trouble as the amount of letters decreases. Deutsche Post, Germany, said on Thursday that 8,000 jobs were called “socially responsible ways.”
Deutsche Post has 187,000 employees and the staff representatives are afraid of more cuts.
Denmark has received universal mail services for 400 years by the end of 2023, but the use of letters has dropped significantly as digital mail services have.
Public services send communication through digital post apps or other platforms. The Danish postal code says the letter market is no longer profitable.
The number of letters fell from 1.4 billion last year to 110 million centuries last year.
This decision most influences the elderly. 95%of Danes uses the Digital Post service, but 271,000 people still depend on physical mail.
Denmark’s MP Pelle Dragsted has accused the privatization of this measure, and complained that the measures would be disadvantageous for those living in secluded areas.
The post office said that about 1,500 workers would lose their jobs with 4,600 people.
The company turned the focus to parcel delivery and purchased this year or 2024. It may be refunded for a limited period in 2026.
Kim Pedersen chief executive said Denmark has become more and more digitized, and the decrease in letters has dropped to 30%last year.
The post office is also operated in Sweden. 40% Danish ownership and 60% Swedish.
