The case against Membe was brought as a private prosecution by the Uganda-based Animal Justice Center with funding from We Won’t Be Scammed, a UK-based group that uses online vigilante tactics to expose fake rescue shelters in Uganda. We Won’t Be Scammed said it is working to receive dogs from raid shelters at existing partner facilities in Uganda.
