An emotional Ewen Ferguson won the DP World Tour BMW International Open in Germany to qualify for The Open Championship.
Scot Ferguson's two-shot victory in Munich saw him finish in the top five of the top 20 finishers in Dubai, including Jesper Svensson, Rory Kanter, Nacho Elvira and Mateo Manassero, who are not participating in the 152nd Open at Troon from July 18-21.
The 28-year-old shot a four-under 68 on Sunday to finish at 18 under, with Britain's Jordan Smith and Australia's David Micheluzzi tied for second on 16 under, sharing the lead with Ferguson after the third round.
Ferguson, who recently revealed he was happy to be back fighting after two rounds following a vertigo attack, Sky Sports In a tearful interview: “I can't believe it.
“The last four holes were like a dream. I didn't think it was really happening. It was crazy. I hit it so well, I hit it much farther than I usually do.
“I wanted to do it for my dad, mom, sister and brother back home. I love them so much and every shot I hit I hit with them in mind.
“It was a really tough game. I've been sick for the past two months and I've been groaning like crazy. (With this win) I feel like a lot of weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I'm so happy.
“The Open Championship is a tournament that everyone wants to play in and I think I can do well there and also do well at the Scottish Open next week. It's a really exciting time for me.”
Ferguson wants to practice with Fleetwood ahead of Open
Ferguson later revealed he had planned to play in the final qualifying round of the Open Championship on Tuesday but felt he could play well enough to secure a spot at either the Munich or Genesis Scottish Open.
He said: “I didn't want to get tired. I decided to withdraw from the Open qualifying because I felt I could have won this week or secured my spot in the top 10 in Scotland.

“It was definitely a really good decision. It made me feel good and I'm here with the trophy. In fact, Tommy Fleetwood texted me to say he did well and asked me to do a practice round (at the Open). I'm looking forward to it.”
It is Ferguson's third career DP World Tour win and his first since the ISPS Handa World Invitational in August 2022, five months after his maiden win that year at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
Micheluzzi tied Smith for second with birdie, birdie and eagle, but his hopes of winning were all but dashed when he found himself in the water on the 16th tee trying to drive his ball onto the green.
Scotland's Conor Syme and Britain's Matthew Southgate were tied for fourth at 14-under, with Southgate eagle-ing the sixth hole.
