The authorities of the Democratic Republic of Congo are trying to attract the exemption of former President Joseph Cavila to prosecution after accusing him from the east sponsorship rebellion.
Constant Mutamba Attorney General had “practical documents, testimonies and material facts that connect Kabila with the M23 armed group on Wednesday.”
The M23 controls part of the east, which is rich in minerals in this country, which is now advanced earlier this year.
53 -year -old Kabila did not mention the accusation, but in the past, he rejected his relationship with the rebels.
He led Dr. Congo for 18 years after he succeeded his father, Laurent, in 2001. Joseph Kabila was 29 years old at the time.
After retreating, he was titled “Lifetime Senator,” which gives legal exemptions.
Dr. Congo’s military prosecution asked the Senate to reverse it.
Kabila has been living outside the country in South Africa for the past two years. But early last month he said he would return to find a solution to the conflict in the East.
A few weeks later, there was a report that the former president came back and was in GOMA, one of the cities occupied by the M23.
But they were rejected by his political party, reconstruction and democracy PPRD.
Last month, the authorities banned PPRD due to the “ambiguous attitude” of the capture of the Congo territory by the M23.
Attorney General Mutamba, who ordered the seizure of the Cavila asset last month, said the former president returned to the state and said, “We must face justice and present his defense.”
Dr. Congo and Rwanda, who refuse to criticize the M23, can be placed for a peace contract for hundreds of thousands of civilians in recent months to end their forced battles at home.
The two countries signed a preliminary agreement in Washington last week and said they will sign a draft contract by Friday.
After swearing as president due to his father’s death, Kabila won two elections. His second and final election terms were officially terminated in December 2016, but he refused to withdraw by saying that he could not organize the election.
He maintained two more years until the election was finally held in 2018.
In January 2019, he delivered power to Félix TSHISEKEDI, the official winner of the dispute election.
He accused Kabila and TSHISEKEDI agreed to exclude him from power.
However, the pair of relationships worsened and the union of the parties was officially terminated in December 2020.
Kabila left Dr. Congo in 2023 and officially studied in South Africa.
In January 2024, his doctoral papers on African relations with the United States, China and Russia were verified at the University of Johannesburg.
