Scientists have published a report on the largest Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) outbreak ever recorded in France, but were unable to explain how the pathogen survived on cooked pizza.

On February 10, 2022, Santé publique France and the National Escherichia coli Reference Center identified a surge in cases of pediatric hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) reported since early February among older-than-usual children living in northern France. A day later, Santé publique France began investigating the outbreak to identify common causes and implement control measures.
