Pep Guardiola expressed his relief after Ederson revealed he had decided to stay at Manchester City this season.
After a 4-3 pre-season friendly defeat to Celtic, Guardiola said the Brazilian goalkeeper was very likely to leave the club this summer after seven years of success. Al Ittihad were one of two Saudi Arabian clubs interested in signing Ederson, who still has two years left on his City contract.
However, Guardiola confirmed the goalkeeper would remain at the club ahead of Saturday's Community Shield against Manchester United.
“I'm very happy that Ederson and (Stephan) Ortega are staying,” he said.
“We couldn't have gone through this incredible eight-year journey without Ederson. It's impossible. His charisma. His consistency. It's hard to replace a goalkeeper the way we play, so I'm really happy he's staying. He'll start (against Manchester United).”
