Three-division world champion Emanuel Navarrete defended his WBO junior lightweight world title against Oscar Valdez in the Mexican main event on Saturday, December 7 in Phoenix, Arizona. It will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
Also on the bill was WBO featherweight world champion Rafael Espinoza, who put his crown on the line against Cuban star Robesi Ramirez, whom he dethroned to win the title last December.
Navarrete (38-2-1, 31 KO) has defended this crown twice, including a decision win over Valdez (32-2, 24 KO) in their first fight in August 2023.
Navarrete’s bid to become the sixth Mexican to become a four-division champion fell short when he dropped a decision for the vacant WBO lightweight championship to Denys Berinchyk in May.
Valdez endured his first professional loss against Shakur Stevenson in April 2022.
The 33-year-old rebounded with a decision win over Adam Lopez in May 2023 before his meeting with Navarrete.
In March, Valdez defeated Liam Wilson by seventh-round TKO to win the WBO interim junior lightweight title.
Espinoza (25-0, 21 KO) recovered from a fifth-round knockdown to put Ramirez on the canvas in the crucial 12th round, with ‘El Divino’ winning by majority decision.
Ramirez (14-2, 9 KOs), a two-time Olympic gold medalist, defended the WBO title he won with a unanimous decision over Isaac Dogbo in April 2023.
“Our first match was so intense and exciting that many people called it ‘the match of the year,’” Ramirez said.
“Ever since the cards were read, my team and I have been asking for a rematch. I’m coming on December 7th to erase all doubt. I’ll get my title back.”
