Emma Raducanu to miss China Open with foot injury | Tennis News

Emma Raducanu has been ruled out of the China Open with a foot injury that “will require time to recover”.

The former US Open winner posted a statement on social media, writing: “Hi everyone, I sprained a ligament in my foot last week in Seoul. Unfortunately, I will need more time to recover.

“This means I won’t be able to compete in Beijing, but I’d like to get back into competition as soon as possible.”

She was forced to withdraw from the Korea Open quarterfinals against Daria Kasatkina due to an injury and will also miss the WTA 1000 event starting on Wednesday.

How has injury affected Emma Raducanu this season?

Unfortunately, injury concerns have also arisen again during the 2024 season, most notably at the Miami Open, where Raducanu was selected as a wildcard for the event but was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to a back injury.

Martina Navratilova thinks Emma Raducanu should take ownership of her tennis career as she answers fans’ questions.

Raducanu suffered a stomach bug that led to her loss at the Australian Open, the first major of the year, but her tennis was encouraging and she then spurred her return with a win over Bouzkova in Abu Dhabi.

Raducanu missed his second major tournament of the year, pulling out just 24 hours before qualifying for the French Open, saying he wanted to “get in shape and stay healthy for the rest of the year”.

Jonathan Overend says it was a good decision for Emma Raducanu to withdraw from the mixed doubles with Andy Murray, saying she wants to pursue a higher ranking in the women’s singles.

Unfortunately, it didn’t go entirely as planned. An ill-timed slip on the Centre Court grass halted all of Raducanu’s momentum, and she was on an impressive run at Wimbledon.

In the first game of the decisive set in her last-16 match against Lulu Sun, Raducanu lost her footing while sliding for a forehand and had to call in her trainer. Raducanu received treatment on her lower left leg and middle back, which had been bothering her throughout the match, and finished the match, but collapsed and lost just as she seemed to be finding her best form.

Having recovered from surgery in 2023, Raducanu continues to manage his injury risk and has decided not to represent Great Britain at the Paris Olympics as he does not want to return to clay at Roland Garros ahead of the hardcourt tournament in the United States.

Raducanu withdrew from the Korea Open in September in the quarterfinals with a foot injury and will now miss the China Open as well.
