England's Charlie Dean uses 'chaos' in rain-shortened T20I vs New Zealand as essential element of World Cup preparation | Cricket News

Charlie Dean believes the “chaos” of England's rain-soaked second T20I against New Zealand at Hove will be a key factor in their preparations for the World Cup in October.

After a two-hour rain-induced delay, England won the 2nd Women's T20I by 23 runs via DLS after posting 89-6, with New Zealand needing to score 48 runs from 14 balls after being ruled out of the game due to rain.

The win took England 2-0 up in the five-match series and Heather Knight's side have adjusted their bowling line-up to prepare for the conditions they will face against Bangladesh at the World Cup.

Charlie Dean took a massive two wickets in one over for England against New Zealand.

Dean, who took two wickets in an over to nullify New Zealand's run-chasing, believes England's ability to adapt in such stressful situations will be of great help when it comes to flexibility on the biggest stage.

“I overheard Heather Knight say in a postgame interview that she was pretty good at handling chaos,” Dean said.

England captain Heather Knight said her team performed brilliantly under pressure as they secured a win in the second T20I against New Zealand.

“In Bangladesh, things don't always go as planned, so the ability to adapt really quickly, to just adapt, is really valuable to us. Flexibility with the team, things like that.

“We are exploring different options, especially with regard to the number of spinners.

“I think it's important to make sure all the players are ready to play at any time.

“Our practice is pretty much geared towards how we should play in Bangladesh in terms of batting.

“We're really trying to get better physically.

“We are keeping an eye on Bangladesh but they are still there and we want to compete in this match as well.”

Dean insists complacency is not affecting England despite their outstanding performances and says it is great to see players like Alice Capsey batting, even if it ultimately leads to them being sent off.

Alice Capsey took two great catches for England.

“I don’t think pride is one of the things we think about. We want to get better in every game we play, every training session we do,” she added.

“No matter who we play or what we do, we just want to execute our game plan and go out there and do our best for our country.

“It's great that Capsey got her chance today. We know how talented and passionate she is. To see her throw down the pitch and clear the ropes over the ground at Hove was very impressive.

“I'm really happy when our batters achieve that kind of performance.

“The depth of our team makes it easy for our top hitters to go out there and play the way they do because there's no real fear of getting out.”
