England’s squad for the intra-squad series has announced eight players who will impress in Pretoria ahead of the Women’s Cricket World Cup | cricket news

England have announced the two squads that will travel to Pretoria for the rescheduled intra-squad series, with eight players given the chance to impress.

This trip was scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi, but the schedule had to be moved due to the political situation in the Middle East.

There are eight players on the tour who are yet to feature for England. Tilly Corteen-Coleman, Jodi Grewcock, Grace Potts, Grace Scrivens, Alexa Stonehouse, Davina Perrin, Rhianna Southby and Ellie Threlkeld have all been given the chance to impress the England selectors.

The team is named after Jan Brittin and Rachael Heyhoe Flint, two legends of English cricket who lifted the World Cup trophy at their home stadium.

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt will lead Team Brittin, coached by Jon JJ Lewis, while vice-captain Charlie Dean will take charge of Team Heyhoe Flint, coached by Luke Williams. Head coach Charlotte Edwards will work with both teams.

Sky Sports’ Nasser Hussain analyzes England’s performance, questioning how they can show greater improvement among their young players and address their weaknesses.

Edwards said: “This is a huge opportunity for all the players involved to put their hands up and show they are a valuable part of the World Cup plans.

“There is the same opportunity for every player, whether they are new to the team or have played their 100th game, we want to use this series as an opportunity to stretch ourselves and feel the pressure in competitive match situations.

“We’ve had two skills-focused training camps this year in Oman and Stellenbosch. Adding a more competitive element is our next step and I’m really excited about how the group is progressing ahead of the big summer.”
