UEFA has announced changes to its club competitions from the 2024/25 season – what will they look like?

How does the draw work?

Like the Champions League, the Europa League and Conference League will expand from 32 to 36 teams. The biggest change will be the move from a traditional group stage to a single league stage involving all participating teams.

In the Europa League, each club will now play a minimum of eight matches (four home and four away) against eight different opponents, up from the previous six matches against three different teams.

However, in a conference league, each team plays six other teams (three home games and three away games).

In both competitions, the top eight teams in the league automatically advance to the knockout tournament, with teams ranked 9th to 24th competing in a second play-off round to advance to the round of 16.

Teams ranked 25th to 36th are eliminated from all matches.
