Almost every major retailer has some kind of rewards program, and Target has one of our favorites. Target Circle, the chain’s free loyalty club, gives members rewards for shopping as well as other deals and savings opportunities.

Target launched Target Circle in October 2019 to make the shopping experience easier and more rewarding. Target Circle replaced the retailer’s previous loyalty program, Target Cartwheel. The latest version of the program was released in spring 2024.

How Targeted Circles Work
The main purpose of Target Circle is to reward loyal customers who shop at Target. Here’s how it works: After signing up for free, Target Circle members can receive special member-only deals on qualifying purchases every time they shop at Target. These can include percentage back rewards that can be used on future Target purchases, BOGO offers, free gift card offers with purchases, and the popular 10% off Target gift card deal that comes out twice a year. A Target Circle membership also gives you access to Target’s annual sale, Target Circle Week.
Benefits of Targeted Circles
Circle membership includes the following benefits:
- Enjoy up to 50% off hundreds of deals and personalized offers.
- Get access to exclusive members-only sales.
- This is a birthday gift with a 5% discount on individual items. Valid for 30 days from your birthday.
- This vote helps Target decide which local nonprofits to donate to.
- This is an exclusive offer for Target Circle partners like Ulta and Apple.
- Get exclusive access to select Black Friday deals and pre-Black Friday deals.
How to join targeted circles
Joining Target Circle is free, fast and easy. There are three ways to join Target Circle:
- Create a Target.com account: If you have an existing Target.com account or create a new account online, you will automatically be enrolled in Target Circle.
- Use the Target app. You can also join Target Circle using the Account tab in the Target app.
- In store: Lastly, you have the option to join Target Circle in-store during checkout. Ask your sales associate about signing up.
When you sign up for Target Circle, you’ll be asked to provide an email address and an optional phone number. When you shop in our store, we will use your phone number to track your account.
How to Get Target Circle Rewards
If you’re a Target Circle member, here’s how you can get the benefit:

- Scan the Target Circle barcode on your wallet in the Target app.
- When paying, enter the registered phone number on the keypad or self-checkout screen.
If you forget to do one of these things at checkout, you can retroactively enter your Target Circle rewards receipt using the Target app. Use the app to scan or manually enter your receipt within 7 days of purchase to receive a reward for that purchase.

To automatically receive Target Circle benefits, simply log in to your Target account.

When you link your Target Circle account to the Target app, valid offers will automatically be applied.
How to Redeem Target Circle Rewards
When you earn Circle rewards through special offers or 5% off birthday offers, you can redeem these rewards as cash on your next visit to Target. Keep in mind that Target Circle rewards expire if not earned or used for one year.
Here’s how to redeem your Target Circle rewards:
At Target Store
Provide your registered phone number at checkout or scan your wallet in the Target app. Select your Target Circle balance at checkout or tell a sales associate that you would like to repay your Target Circle earnings. Balance will be applied at time of purchase. At the self-checkout counter? Open the Target app, tap “Show my barcode” and scan.
At Target.com
Make sure you’re logged in to your account before paying at Target.com. You can choose to apply your Target Circle earnings to your order at checkout.
Via target app
Choose to apply your Target Circle earnings to your order during checkout in the Target app.
If you choose to redeem your rewards, keep in mind that you must use your entire balance in the same transaction. You cannot choose to use only part of your balance. If your purchase total is less than your current rewards balance, you will not have access to your remaining rewards balance until the transaction is fully processed.

The Target Circle Rewards Program is separate from Target Circle.

If you are a target circle Cardholders are automatically enrolled in Target Circle. But the savings don’t add up. As a target circle Cardholders can receive a 5% discount on Target purchases in exchange for (rather than extra) rewards from the Target Circle rewards program.
One of the key differences between the two programs is that Target Circle rewards must be used on future visits. In contrast, Target Circle is When you use your card, you will instantly receive 5% off your current purchase.

Target Circle Week
Target Circle Week is a sale at Target exclusively for Target Circle members. Target had a Spring Circle Week sale in April, with Fall Circle Week running from October 6 to October 12, 2024. Unlike Amazon’s Prime Day sale, Target Circle Week is a seven-day sale. Circle membership is required to receive the discount.

What happened to the caravan wheel?
Target Cartwheel no longer exists, and Target Circle replaced it as Target’s loyalty program in 2019.
Do you still need to “clip” coupons?
If you are a Target Circle member, the coupon will be automatically applied at the time of purchase. Clipping offers before paying causes anxiety and FOMO, so I’m glad that extra step is eliminated. However, there are some caveats.
- Some manufacturer coupons/rebates still require “cutting” and applying.
- Some “time-limited” Target Circle bonus offers still need to be activated. Think of a “Spend $50 on two shopping trips within X days and receive a bonus” type of offer. You might want to plan the timing of your shopping trip and activate the bonus when you’re ready, so you probably don’t want these features to activate automatically.
What Happened to Target Circle 1% Back?
Target revamped its Target Circle program in April 2024. One change was that there was no longer a 1% refund on all purchases. The old reliable 1% rewards are gone, but you can still find percentage back bonus offers on some purchases.

Can I stack Target Circle offers?
Generally yes. Target Circle offers can often be stacked with other Target Circle offers and other coupons, unless prohibited by the offer terms. They recently offered two Target Circle offers: 5% off Burt’s Bees products and a free $5 Target gift card with the purchase of three Burt’s Bees products.

What are the Target Circle and Ulta Beauty Rewards benefits?
Target recently partnered with Ulta beauty stores to open mini Ulta stores in 100 Target stores. The retailer said it plans to add Ulta mini stores to 800 Target stores.
As part of the partnership, Target will allow Ulta Beauty Rewards (Ulta’s rewards program) members to link their Ulta Beauty Rewards and Target Circle accounts. By linking these two accounts, you can earn Ulta Rewards points. and Target Circle rewards every time you shop at Ulta mini stores within Target (assuming there is an active relevant offer). This is a great way to save at Ulta and Target at the same time.
Is there a Target Circle app?
No, there is no standalone Target Circle app. Target Circle is integrated into the Target app so you can manage offers, store gift cards, and manage your Target Circle. Cards and shopping are all available in one place.
