Fabio Wardley is confident he deserves a decision win over Frazer Clarke in a thrilling first fight.
Wardley is hoping to “finally settle the score” with Clarke when they rematch on October 12 after a dramatic draw in their first heavyweight fight earlier this year.
“I don’t think it’s a draw at all. I rush the fight, I rush the action,” Wardley said.
“I want to finish it. I want to finish it all. I want to check off that chapter and move on.”
Clarke is equally spiteful. “I want to smash his face in again,” he said. “This is the fight I want. A draw is not my cup of tea. You could see me devastated after the fight.
“I look back and see a series of mistakes I’ve made. You can’t make mistakes. When the stakes are high, it’s about who can grab it and eliminate those mistakes.”
At a press conference on Thursday, longtime light heavyweight rivals Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol squared off in a long-anticipated, undefeated title fight.
“I wanted to fight the best boxers in the light heavyweight division,” Bivol said. “To make a name for myself in the sport.
“That was my goal when I got into professional boxing. I set my goal. I have to be the best. I have to be the best in the light heavyweight division.
“This is my last fight to prove myself.”
Beterbiev, who postponed this match to recover from a knee injury, insists he is ready for this moment.
“I’m always 100 percent prepared,” he promised.
Beterbiev has knocked out every professional fighter he has faced, but he said, “I never want to knock out anybody. If it happens, it happens.”
On the undercard, Jack Massey will challenge High Opetaia for the IBF cruiserweight world title.
“This is what I do. This is my job,” Massey said. “I know how big this opportunity is. I’m going to grab it with both hands. I’m ready.
“I don’t just show up. I don’t just show up for the money.
“I will do everything I can to win this fight.”
Liam Cameron is hoping to stop light heavyweight star Ben Whittaker from getting injured.
“If he boxes, if he fights, it’s going to be a good fight. I’m going to take it from him,” Cameron said.
“He’s funny how he makes you miss,” he added of Whittaker. “He can’t do that. In boxing, you have to put your hand up.”
But Whittaker insisted: “It doesn’t really matter what he brings.”
“On October 12th, you will find out why I am special.”
The October 12 event sees Chris Eubank Jr. return after a career-best win over Liam Smith last year. He takes on Kamil Szeremeta, while Skye Nicholson defends her WBC super featherweight title against Britain’s Raven Chapman.
