“Scoop was a beloved figure in the music industry, and his work was loved by countless fans around the world,” a spokesperson for the agency said.

“His iconic voice, infectious energy and great personality left an indelible mark on the industry.”

Scoop was considered an influential figure in New York's hip-hop scene in the 1990s.

He has appeared on popular songs such as Missy Elliott's Grammy-winning “Lose Control” and Mariah Carey's “It's Like That.”

Scoop is also known for his surprise hit Be Faithful, which was originally released in 1999 and re-released in 2003 to international success, reaching number one in the Irish and UK charts.

In 2004, the rapper appeared in the Channel 4 British TV series 'Chancers', which featured musicians mentoring aspiring British artists looking to make it in America.

Fatman Scoop was also a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother 16: UK vs USA in 2015. He was the third housemate to be evicted.

His tour manager, DJ Pure Cold, wrote on Instagram that he was “speechless” at the news of his friend's death.

“You took me around the world to perform with you on the biggest and most wonderful stages on the planet,” he wrote.

“The things you taught me have truly made me who I am today.”

Fatman Scoop was due to perform at the UK's Reminisce Festival on September 7. In a post on Instagram, the festival called the news of his death “devastating.”

“He was not only one of our most popular performers, but a valued member of the Reminisce family,” the festival said.

“His energy, talent and infectious spirit will be missed beyond words.”
