FDA warns four importers of failure in safety verification

As part of its enforcement efforts, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sends warning letters to agencies under its jurisdiction. Some letters are not posted publicly until weeks or months after they are sent. Employers must respond to an FDA warning letter within 15 days. Warning letters are often not issued until the company has had months or years to resolve the problem. Portions of letters are often redacted so they cannot be viewed by the public.

The FDA issued warning letters to four food importers in California, New York, and Pennsylvania after inspectors found they had failed to develop required Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVPs) for imported foods.
