FDA warns sprout producers, pet treat manufacturers of food safety violations

As part of its enforcement efforts, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sends warning letters to agencies under its jurisdiction. Some letters are not posted publicly until weeks or months after they are sent. Employers must respond to an FDA warning letter within 15 days. Warning letters are often not issued until the company has had months or years to resolve the problem. Portions of letters are often redacted so they cannot be viewed by the public.

The FDA issued warning letters to an Illinois sprout producer and a Michigan pet handler for serious food safety violations, including failures in pathogen monitoring, sanitation controls, and food safety prevention programs.
