As part of its enforcement efforts, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sends warning letters to agencies under its jurisdiction. Some letters are not posted publicly until weeks or months after they are sent. Employers must respond to an FDA warning letter within 15 days. Warning letters are often not issued until the business has been given months or years to correct the problem. Portions of letters are often redacted so they cannot be viewed by the public.
The FDA issued warning letters after investigators found three food importers in Florida, Iowa, and Texas had failed to develop required Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVPs) for imported food.
