Hideki Matsuyama saw a five-shot lead disappear in four holes before birdies on his final two holes en route to a tense two-shot victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
The event is part of the final playoff of the PGA Tour season, with only the top 50 in the overall standings qualifying for next week's BMW Championship and all $20 million major events next year.
England's Justin Rose was one of the unlucky ones to miss out, finishing in 55th place. He finished the week at TPC Southwind in Memphis with a final-round 71 to finish at six-under and tied for 22nd.
The 50th and final spot went to U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, who was expected to finish just outside the cutoff for most of Sunday.
Norway's Viktor Hovland (T2), Nick Dunlap (T5) and Eric Cole (T18) all made it into the top 50 with impressive final rounds, with Cole in particular finishing with a stunning 63, tied for the lowest score at 7-under with Xander Schauffele and Max Gracerman.
Meanwhile, Tom Kim, Mackenzie Hughes and Jake Knapp dropped out of the top 50, with Rose dropping five places to 55th.
Kim had an easy time advancing until he needed two shots to escape a greenside bunker on the par-5 16th hole, but that led to a bogey, double bogey, and double bogey, finishing in 51st place and just shy of qualifying.
Meanwhile, Matsuyama, who sits atop the FedEx St. Jude leaderboard, is at 17-under, two strokes better than Schauffele and Viktor Hovland despite a huge scare on the back nine.
Matsuyama held a five-shot lead heading into Sunday, the largest 54-hole lead of his career, but he faltered at the end.
After playing the first 11 holes at 2-under, he had a bogey, par, bogey and double bogey on holes 12 through 15, briefly being overtaken by Schauffele and Hovland.

Schauffele started the round at 8-under (nine strokes behind Matsuyama). He stormed to a bogey-free round and nearly chipped in on the 18th green, making the final hole even more difficult for Matsuyama.
However, Matsuyama eventually won the tournament with back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th holes, the latter of which was the most difficult hole on the course.
Matsuyama won his 10th career title on the PGA Tour, following a pre-tournament robbery in London that left him with the loss of his caddie and coach, and forced him to return to Japan after losing his passport in the robbery.
World No. 1 Scotty Scheffler (66) took sole possession of fourth place with 14 under.
