Celebrations erupted across Milan after Inter Milan won the Serie A title with a 2-0 win over Parma, sending thousands of supporters taking to the streets.
On Sunday, shortly after the final whistle blew in nearby San Siro, Piazza del Duomo was packed with fans dressed in blue and black, and flares and fireworks lit up the night sky.
Marcus Thuram scored the first goal at the end of the first half, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan confirmed the victory 10 minutes later. The winners moved up to 82 points and secured their 21st Scudetto with three games remaining in the campaign.
Inter went into the game knowing a point would be enough after second-placed Napoli were held to a 0-0 draw at Como on Saturday, and the next day’s own result gave them an unrivaled 12-point lead at the top.
Despite the lack of clear chances, Inter dominated much of the first half and settled deep into Parma’s half.
The home team came close in the 25th minute of the first half when Nicolo Barella’s powerful close-range shot hit the underside of the bar. The rebound hit the back of Parma goalkeeper Sion Suzuki, but the Japan international reacted quickly to put the ball away from near the line and out of danger.
Thuram caused a stir among the home supporters in first-half stoppage time, slotting home after latching on to a pass from Piotr Zielinski to put Inter ahead.

The second half followed a similar pattern of Inter maintaining control but failing to capitalize on their dominance as supporters inside the stadium became increasingly focused on the clock ticking down to 90 minutes.
Federico Dimarco delivered a near-perfect cross to Denzel Dumfries in the final stages, but the defender failed to control his first touch and sent a close-range effort high over the bar and missed the chance to seal the match.
Mkhitaryan sealed the win after 10 minutes when he headed home Lautaro Martinez’s low cross to secure the point and spark celebrations among Inter supporters.
For Inter, the win provided bounce-back after last season’s heartbreak, when the club lost the Serie A title in their last game before being hammered 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
“I’m so happy now. It wasn’t easy to start again after finishing the season and losing all the competitions, but I’m very happy with this achievement today,” Martinez said.
“This was a very important goal for us. Probably not many people would have thought of us as favorites considering what happened last season, but we worked very hard on and off the field.”
The atmosphere in the Italian metropolis was a stark contrast to a year ago, when supporters suffered the disappointment of losing the league title to Napoli on the final day and losing in the Champions League final.
“I have nothing to say. Despite everyone jinxing us from start to finish. Always go to Inter,” said Inter fan Fabio. “It’s awesome. It’s amazing. And compared to how it ended last year, we deserve it all this year.”
Many supporters were seen shedding tears during the celebrations.
Fellow Inter fan Federico said: “It was more than expected. It was a difficult league season because it’s always tight at the beginning of the season.”
The festivities are expected to continue ahead of the Coppa Italia final on May 13, when Lazio thwart Inter’s domestic double.
