Flights to or from Haneda Airport? United, Delta announce waivers: Travel Weekly

Delta Air Lines and United Airlines have announced waivers for travel to and from Tokyo's Haneda Airport following a runway crash Tuesday evening.

The crash, in which a Japan Airlines (JAL) Airbus A350-900 collided with a Japan Coast Guard aircraft, killed five crew members on the Coast Guard aircraft. All 379 passengers and crew on the JAL flight survived.

Haneda Airport was closed immediately after the crash, but has since resumed some operations. So far, 155 flights departing Haneda on Wednesday have been canceled, according to FlightAware, or 21% of the day’s schedule.

Delta and United Airlines are allowing customers departing or arriving at Haneda to rebook without a fare difference until Thursday, subject to a waiver provision. Rebooked travel must begin by January 7 for Delta and by January 9 for United.
