Former Romanian President IONIESCU, who presided over the chaotic transition from communism to democracy, died at age 95.

ILIESCU was diagnosed with lung cancer and was hospitalized in Bukkuresti, the capital of Romania in early June.

The government’s statement said, “I regret it in depth that the government has published the passage of former Romanian President Ion Ilisu.”

ILIESCU was the first president of Romania, and served twice in 1986-1996 and 2000-2004. He was accused of humanity against the violent rebellion that broke the Romanian communist regime in 1989, but always denied a mistake.

The prosecution was raised in 2019, but he was never convicted.

Separately, he was also prosecuted for his role to crush his student protests to miners after the 1990 election.

Blood crackdowns, known as Mineriad, have been widespread criticism.

In recent years, ILIESCU was undergoing regular medical checkups at Elias Hospital in Bukkurestee.

In 2019 he had a heart -exudate surgery.

Born in Southern City Olteni on March 3, 1930, ILIESCU has been withdrawn from public life in recent years, but sometimes shared a written message on a personal blog.

His last post was celebrated on May 19 when the Bucure Sty’s liberal, Nicusor Dan, was elected president.
