Four Seasons has officially entered the cruise world. But don’t call it a cruise.
Today, the company’s first yacht, Four Seasons IMarking its maiden voyage in the Mediterranean, it marks a major expansion for one of the world’s best-known luxury hotel brands and is the latest offering in the hotel brand’s new line of luxury small ship cruises originating from Ritz-Carlton. And here’s what will be of interest to Caribbean travelers: An ultra-luxury ship is set to arrive in the Caribbean. Caribbean and Bahamas this winter.
This means a whole new kind of luxury travel experience will soon hit the region.
Hotel Brand — Now at Sea
For decades, Four Seasons has built a reputation for service, consistency, and sophisticated, elegant luxury. Now we’re taking that formula overseas.
A new yacht is not a remodel or rebrand. It was built from scratch as a floating extension of the brand. 95 suites On board — a fraction of what you would find on a traditional cruise ship. There are no interior cabins. All suites are designed with indoor and outdoor living in mind, and most feature large terraces and private plunge pools.
The idea is simple. It should feel closer to staying at a Four Seasons resort than boarding a ship.
Additionally, the ratio of guests to staff is close to one to one. This shows how service-heavy this experience is.
What’s it actually like onboard?
The design takes open space and light into consideration, with floor-to-ceiling windows, spacious decks, and multiple outdoor spaces with uninterrupted views of the ocean.
The top of the yacht includes a nearly 10,000-square-foot suite located at the front of the ship with panoramic ocean views. Standard accommodations are also much larger than you would normally expect at sea.
Food is the main focus. there is 11 restaurants and loungesIncludes a rotating chef residency program that recruits talent from Four Seasons restaurants around the world. Expect everything from Mediterranean seafood to omakase-style dining, with the menu changing depending on the voyage.
There is also a strong wellness component. The onboard spa includes a full thermal circuit along with treatments such as cryotherapy and infrared therapy. Daily programs include yoga, meditation and personalized fitness sessions.
And then there’s the marina, a built-in platform that opens directly onto the water for swimming, water sports, and what the brand calls “Marina Days.” Essentially turning your yacht from a quieter destination into a floating beach club.
Why this matters for the Caribbean
Luxury cruises are nothing new in the Caribbean. But this is a different category.
What Four Seasons is building here is closer to a private yacht experience on a larger, more accessible level. Fewer passenger numbers mean access to ports and anchorages that larger ships cannot reach. This includes quieter ports and less crowded coastal areas throughout the region.
It also shifts the focus away from the ship as a destination and focuses more on how to get to each place.
Each itinerary includes a custom, pre-planned coastal experience rather than a fixed group tour. Depending on what you really want to do, consider private guides, smaller groups, and more flexibility.
when you arrive
The yacht will spend its first summer sailing the Mediterranean on a route that includes areas such as Saint-Tropez, the Greek islands and the Croatian coast.
Then, in the first year of operation, it transitions to: Winter Caribbean and Bahamas itinerary — is part of a broader plan that includes dozens of sailings and more than 100 destinations worldwide.
The timing would mark its Caribbean debut during peak travel season, when demand for warm-weather luxury travel is highest.
bigger picture
Four Seasons’ move into the yacht business isn’t about adding another cruise option, it’s about redefining what that category can look like.
There are few customers. Bigger accommodations. Highly personalized service. More flexible travel itineraries.
And for Caribbean travelers, this means something new is coming this winter. In other words, it’s a way to experience the region somewhere between a resort stay and a private charter trip.
