A released Palestinian prisoner was shocked to discover that his family was alive after believing they had been murdered.
Shadi Abu Sido told the BBC that Israeli prison guards had lied to him, that his family had been murdered and his home had been bombed.
Mr. Shido spent 20 months in an Israeli prison and was one of about 2,000 prisoners exchanged for Israeli hostages under the first phase of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement.
But when he arrived in Gaza, he was overwhelmed by the welcome he received from his family.
Israeli prisons said they operated according to the law and were not aware that such an incident had occurred.
The BBC’s Lucy Williamson reports.
