The French Open is an exception among the Grand Slam of Tennis because it maintains a human line judge in 2026, using electronic line calls.
According to Lionel Ollinger, the French Tennis Federation (FFT) confirmed the decision in the statement, and the ruling said in a statement that it will continue to show the excellence of the world’s recognized French referral.
Roland Garros remains the only grand slam that has not implemented an electronic line call.
“We are a coalition where referees and pre -judges work every day,” said Gilles Moretton FFT.
“We are proud of this. We have a powerful training system. We are a benchmark and we want to keep it.
“The will of the unity is to keep the judge as long as possible. Now, the players are driving the train. Someday we say unanimously.” We will not play without a machine. “But we think we have a bright future to preserve this pyramid.”
In the 2025 tournament edition, 404 officials attended, including 284 French representatives from all French leagues.
In 2025, MBLE Blance adopted ELC (Electronic Line Calling) (ELC), and France judged whether the ball landed by using the ball for the last time among the four tennis majors.
Instead, public officials rely on the remaining scores as a shot of the player on the Roland Garos clay.
The Line Judge makes an initial decision before the chair referee checks the controversial ball at the request of the player.
Aryna Sabalenka and Alexander Zverib used a call to take a mark photo in European Clay Court Swing earlier this year.
The Australian Open adopted ELC in 2021, and US Open was adopted in 2022 after using it in some courts in 2020.
MBLE Blun’s ELC
WIMBLEDON removed the line early this year by explaining this “inevitable” movement with Sally Bolton, CEO of Aettc (All Lawn Tennis CLUB) earlier this year.
But EMMA Raducanu and Jack Draper were one of the players who questioned the use of electronic line calls in this summer tournament.
Raducanu said: “It’s disappointing that the phone can be too wrong, but most of them were fine, I had a few in other games, which is very wrong.
The former American Open Champion admitted that she did not trust this technology.
“No, not.” She added. “I think other players will say the same thing. I was quite troubled, but what can I do?”
DRAPER also queryed the performance of the technology in the year of debuting from MBLE Blance, and suggested that the call was missed in the second round defeat against Marine Silic.
“I don’t think it’s 100 % accurate in all honesty,” he said. “Today, the two showed their marks in the court.
“There is no way the chalk shows. I think it’s 100 % not accurate. It’s millimeters.”
Swiss player Belinda Bencic repercuss on uncertainty to the system and pointed out a common prospect among the players in the dressing room.
“I do not believe it either,” she said earlier this week. “Of course, you feel a bit foolish about the call of the electronic line, but of course it depends on how it is installed and the correct way.
“It’s not just me, you know, I feel as if I’m watching another game, and the player likes to say or complain about the same thing, and even some balls can go out, long or something on TV.
“Our players are talking about it and I think most people have the same opinion.”
Pavlyuchenkova’s system malfunction
The most controversial moment in the Grand Slam was when the system malfunction was when the technology was turned off for the game in the victory over Sonay Kartal in the UK.
It became clear that the system did not work when the Cartal’s shot was not excluded and the base was clearly landed beyond the baseline, and rejected the 5-4 lead in the first set.
The referee NICO HELWERTH instead opened a way to break the other person’s serve for Cartal’s 5-4 advantage, insisting that he should stop the game and play points.
When Pavlyuchenkova returned to her chair, “You took the game from me, they stole the game from me.
Fortunately, Pavlyuchenkova was not expensive because she beat Kartal 7-6 6-4.
