Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was asked about what Democrats perceive as discrepancies between the White House and the intelligence community’s claims about Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities.
In her pre-written opening statement to the Senate Intelligence Committee, she wrote: As a result of ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’, Iran’s nuclear enrichment program was obliterated. Since then there have been no efforts to rebuild enrichment capabilities.’
However, she said in an oral statement, “Prior to Operation Epic Fury, the IC assessed that Iran was seeking to recover from the severe damage to its nuclear infrastructure suffered during the 12-Day War, continued to refuse to comply with its nuclear obligations to the IAEA, and denied access to key facilities.”
Under pressure from Democratic senators, she said she changed her statement to save time.
