The French veteran Gael Monfils announced that it will retire from tennis at the end of the 2026 season.
Monfils, who turned 39 years old on September 1, was ranked first in the world as a result of the best Grand SLAM in the 2016 US Open and 2008 French Open.
He scored 13 career titles that became the oldest ATP tour single champion of 38 and 4 months at the Auckland Open in January this year, setting the previous record by Roger Federer.
Monfils, who writes in Instagram, said:
“Now, after congratulations on my 39th birthday a month ago, I want to share that the year will be the last year as a professional tennis player.

“This game means the world to me, but at the end of the 2026 season, it is very peaceful to retire.
“‘Allez, Gael!’ In real life or TV screen: your energy and love truly to me.
