Geoff Lewis, a rider of Great Mill Reef and later Epsom Training Scene, died at age 89.

Wales Moon boarded Ian’s bald training Colt in 1971 when he won the Derby and Frigs de Loar Arc de Triomphe.

Mill REEF also offered victory at Dewhurst and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, and Lewis was a Tudor Lord for Sir Winston Churchill in 1959, Ascot Stakes and 1970 Queen Queen Many other notable awards, including Magna Carta and Doncaster Cup in 1969.

Lewis retired from the saddle in 1979 and continued to train in Epsom, and in 1992, Lake Derby and Konnie Stone flew for the yard when he won the July Cup with York Steak in 1995.

Lewis’s establishment of his stability in EPSOM has returned to his career as Ron Smyth’s apprentice, and the yard is now the base of the trainer Simon Dow.

DOW said, “Ron has been a mentor of Geoff since he was a 15 -year -old boy.

“He was in a local nursing house and he was not good for a while.

“He was an icon, icon, and of course he won Derby in Great Mill Reef.

“He was a rider and a trainer, and as a trainer for 20 years, he was very successful in the barns of 30 acre.

“It is very rare for good flat riders to continue to be the most flat trainer, but he was one of the few people who switched.

“He was part of the fabric of EPSOM. The people of my age and generation have fantastic memories of him, and he was also a great person who was also very supportive and a friend to everyone in EPSOM.”
