Former AIG Women's Open champion Georgia Hall said the British Open at St Andrews would be a “great tests of the links” and had made it a “priority” ahead of a busy summer for women's golf.
Hall, who made great strides at the Royal Leedum six years ago, is excited about the challenge at this year's AIG Women's Open.
This will be the first major event to be held in St Andrews since the extensive refurbishment of the historic R&A clubhouse.
“This is the home of golf and it’s my favorite place,” Hall said at this year’s Media Day held in St. Andrews from August 22-25. Sky Sports Golf. “I really like it here and I think it will be a great major championship.”
“I think the crowd will be amazing,” Hall, 28, said. “I know the R&A will set this course up to be a great test for us and we hope it will be a real test of sorts for everyone taking part in the windy weather.
“From a personal standpoint, it would be really nice to have my family and friends supporting me, which you don’t get that much from on the LPGA.”
Hall, who first played for St Andrews as an amateur, said the place brought back happy memories. “It was a long time ago when I was 16, but it was really special to win a silver medal and have my dad caddy for me. But when the wind blows, this course can be quite difficult.
“I also remember the first two rounds where I was paired with Laura Davies, so she's just British Idol. It was a great experience for me. It's pretty special and can't come soon enough.”
“What I’ve learned is that winning a major is really hard. You can’t back out on Sunday,” Hall added. “The pin is in, but everyone wants to win more than a normal Open just because St Andrews is the home of golf.
“Links golf suits me better than any other type of golf. You have to be natural and imaginative around the greens and here too the greens are much slower which suits me.
“I’m trying to prepare as much as I can. I need to improve my putting skills and improve my mindset.
“This is the top priority. This is the largest tournament in women’s golf.”
