Take a moment to immerse yourself in the beauty of the artwork contained in this bag. Scroll down through all the photos, keeping in mind that only photos of impeccable quality can withstand the scrutiny of high-performance camera lenses. It’s no secret that I admire the work done at Chiaroscuro Bags by Smriti Sain. This beautiful and unique leather bag was created after a year of research with a senior craftsman in her studio. After studying design and working for an Italian leather brand, Smriti returned to India, set up her own workspace and started retailing these beautiful products.
The bag featured here is Raisin Gigi and I fell in love with it the moment I laid eyes on the Chiaroscuro website (the website itself is a well-made piece of work and you can buy the bags on the website as well. There are countless great quality niche brands I’ve seen over the last 12 months, and very few have a website let alone a store – this is a huge lost opportunity, especially when you have products you can photograph).
I’ve seen so many leather products in my life, and the first thing I notice is how many pieces of leather are sewn together on the strap. This is an immediate disregard for quality. This is why I was very happy to see that the strap of the Chiaroscuro bag is made from one solid piece of leather, which makes the bag not only more beautiful but also durable.
I love the simplicity and thick bottom of this bag. The styles of pockets and straps are different. I removed the middle part of the strap, fastened the hooks together to a metal clip, and carried it in my hand. It’s not the most elegant solution, but it can be done if you’re interested in that kind of thing. I prefer to wear the bag crossbody with the strap set to its longest setting. This is the bag I carry with me now, whether I’m going to a formal client meeting or chilling out with friends. The Burnt Sienna Scottie is also one of my favorite bags, and the one I prefer to carry it with me when I want to carry my Nikon D810 with an 85mm 1.4 lens.
A one-of-a-kind leather bag handcrafted by artisans #MadeInIndia No wonder most of them are sold out! Don’t forget to monogram your bag too. Especially if you’re buying it as a gift for someone this season.

Thank you Jahangir Ansari for creating such a perfect beauty!
